BLENDED FAMILIES

Every family is unique and so is its likelihood to succeed. However, studies suggest about 60 to 70 percent of marriages involving children from a previous marriage fail. This is a higher rate than for overall marriages ending in divorce, which hovers around 50 percent.

Based on Ron Deal’s book The Smart Step-Family, this eight week workshop offers practical, realistic solutions to the issues that confront step families, adoptive families and other blended families. For couples or groups, this material helps remarried and soon-to-be married couples, and families of adopted children, recognize the unique personality and place of each family member solve the everyday puzzles of blended family relationships, learn communication skills to deal with ex-spouses, honor families of origin while developing new traditions and invest the time to grow their blended family slowly rather than look for instant results.  Topics addressed include:

  • Introduction and Key Stepping Stones

  • Adjusting Your Expectations

  • Making Your Marriage Your Top Priority

  • The Parenting Team

  • Parent and Blended Family Parent Roles

  • Pitfalls Common to Blended Families

  • Overcoming Special Challenges

  • Putting It All Together
